Class of 2011
Tom Winiecki

Some coaches become synonymous with their schools, leaving an indelible legacy of excellence and mentorship. At Gordon Tech High School, Tom Winiecki is one such figure. Over 42 years, including 31 as Head Football Coach, Tom shaped not only the athletic program but also the lives of countless student-athletes. His remarkable career includes leading the Rams to a state football championship in 1980 and earning a place in the hearts of his players, colleagues, and the entire school community.

A Chicago native, Tom’s football journey began at Leo High School before taking him to Michigan State, where he excelled as a lineman. After reflecting on his own educational opportunities, Tom joined Gordon Tech as an assistant football coach in 1963 and soon became a pillar of the school, eventually serving as both Athletic Director and an administrator.

Widely respected for his leadership, Tom has been honored by the Chicago Catholic League, IHSA Football Coaches, and others. His influence extends beyond his own career, as 13 former assistants have gone on to become head coaches themselves. Now retired, Tom continues to inspire, leaving a legacy defined by dedication and impact. Married to his wife Barbara for 45 years, he is a proud father and grandfather.
