Class of 2009
Tom Shaer

Tom Shaer transformed his early passion for broadcasting into a distinguished media career spanning multiple decades in Chicago and beyond. Beginning as a student correspondent at Emerson College in Boston at age 18, Tom quickly made history as Boston’s youngest talk show host on WITS-AM by age 20. His journey led him to Chicago in 1983, where he became a prominent figure in sports broadcasting, spending 14 years as a sports anchor and reporter at NBC-5 and nine years hosting the popular morning radio show “The Score” on WSCR.

As President of TSM Media, Inc., Tom has expanded his influence beyond traditional broadcasting, providing media consulting services and producing radio and television programming. His expertise has earned him numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award and both the Associated Press Broadcast Award and Peter Lisagor Award for sports journalism. Currently serving as Master of Ceremonies for various corporate and charitable events, Tom continues to work as a freelance broadcaster in Chicago and nationally.

Adding to his impressive portfolio, Tom serves as President and CEO of Project Health Radio, overseeing health and fitness programming across a 106-station national network. His versatility and professionalism have made him one of Chicago’s most recognizable broadcasters, as noted by Crain’s Chicago Business. When not behind the microphone, Tom resides in Chicago’s north suburbs, where he balances his professional life with being a father to two grown children and pursues his interests in golf, long-distance cycling, and US History.
