Tim Brosnan’s lifelong passion for baseball began at Georgetown University, where he earned his degree in 1976 while also competing on the school’s baseball team. Though the pull of the game never left him, Brosnan first chose to pursue a career in law, going on to earn his JD and practice with multiple firms between 1984 and 1991. Those years were marked by professional success and personal milestones, including marrying his wife, Claire. Despite his success in law, Brosnan couldn’t help but reminisce on his love for baseball, and often expressed a desire to work in baseball. One evening, his remarks reached the right ears, and by 1991 he had stepped away from law and onto the MLB’s business team.
What began as a bold career change quickly turned into a defining vocation. By 2002, Brosnan was promoted to Executive Vice President of Business for Major League Baseball, a role that would see him shape the very way the sport was experienced, marketed, and celebrated. Over the next 15 years, Brosnan helped transform baseball into a truly global enterprise. He played a central role in the planning and launch of MLB Network, negotiated more than $20 billion in media deals, and led the creation of the World Baseball Classic, a groundbreaking international tournament showcasing talent from around the globe.
His reach extended far beyond broadcasting and rights agreements. Brosnan oversaw every aspect of MLB’s special events, from the All-Star Game festivities to the grandeur of the World Series, ensuring that each occasion carried the weight and polish of a world-class production. His leadership also touched publishing, marketing, licensing, and scheduling, with MLB’s retail licensing business surpassing $4 billion under his watch. The impact of his work was reflected in consistent recognition: the Sports Business Journal named him to its list of the “100 Most Powerful People in Sports” 11 times, and in 2014 he rose to the shortlist of finalists to become MLB Commissioner.
Brosnan’s professional journey did not stop at MLB. After 25 years with the league, he launched a media consultancy, guiding organizations such as The Carlyle Group, KKR, Activision/Blizzard, FanDuel, several MLB clubs, and even his alma mater, Georgetown University. He also served as Executive Chair and CEO of PrimeSport, later sold to Endeavor, and as a board member of Alclear LLC, which took CLEAR public. Brosnan has consistently sought opportunities to grow and modernize the business of sport.
Most recently, Georgetown once again called on him, this time to lead the university’s efforts in navigating the new world of Name, Image, and Likeness rights for NCAA athletes. He served as Chairman and CEO from its founding in 2023 through May 2025.
Today, Brosnan remains deeply connected to both baseball and education. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and Fordham Law School, where he is Director Emeritus of the Alumni Board. Brosnan and Claire reside in Larchmont, New York, where they raised their three children, carrying forward a family life rooted in service, leadership, and a love of sport.
We are proud to present Tim Brosnan with the Contribution to Sports Award, honoring a remarkable career that has helped shape the business, reach, and global future of baseball.
