Class of 2006
Terry Cummings

Terry Cummings rose from challenging beginnings as one of 13 children to become a star basketball player at Chicago Carver High School, DePaul University, and the NBA. At DePaul, he excelled under legendary coach Ray Meyer, averaging 16.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game over three seasons. Drafted second overall by the San Diego Clippers in 1982, Cummings earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors with 23.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He became one of the few players in NBA history to average a double-double in his rookie season and sustained this performance for several years.

Cummings enjoyed an 18-year NBA career, playing for teams including the Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors. A two-time Eastern Conference All-Star, he scored over 20 points per game in seven different seasons, with a career average of 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds. Retiring in 2000, Cummings remained deeply committed to his faith, becoming an ordained Pentecostal minister at 16 and founding Victory In Christ, a nonprofit that serves inner-city youth in Chicago. He also led Cummings Entertainment Group and released a music album in 2005. A dedicated community leader, he runs an annual basketball camp for children and is a proud father of three, including a son who plays professionally.
