Ron Rubenstein’s illustrious athletic journey began at Senn High School, where he was hailed as the top basketball player in Illinois in 1956. Known for his sharp driving and deft outside shooting, Rubenstein led the University of Louisville Cardinals to their first Final Four in 1959. He remains one of the program’s most celebrated players, excelling in free-throw shooting and finishing his career with an impressive 12.1 points per game.
Beyond basketball, Rubenstein made his mark in racquetball and tennis. As a two-time National Racquetball Champion and participant in international tennis tournaments, including as a quarterfinalist in the 45-and-over event, his passion for racquet sports has defined much of his later life. He also competed alongside his children, Adam and Blair, winning multiple national tournaments in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Inducted into the Chicago Public League and Chicago Jewish Sports Halls of Fame, Rubenstein continues to be celebrated for his remarkable contributions to athletics. Married to Ellen-Sue for 47 years, he has four children and eight grandchildren.
