Mike North is a renowned voice in Chicago sports radio, embodying the perspective of the everyday sports fan. Raised in Rogers Park, he began his career as a hot dog vendor at Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park in 1969, an experience that influenced his future path. In 1985, North opened his own hot dog stand, Be’s, where he showcased his sports knowledge and engaged in lively discussions with customers.

His big break came in 1990 when he proposed a sports show idea that led to the creation of the “NFL Handicap Show” on WSBC. By 1992, he was recruited by the newly launched Chicago-sports station, The Score Sports Radio 820, where he co-hosted the groundbreaking “Monsters of The Midday.” Known for his street-smart, opinionated style, North helped shape Chicago sports talk radio. He later hosted his own shows, including “The Mike North Show” and “The Mike North Morning Show,” earning multiple honors, including two Emmys, for his work.

A passionate advocate for 16-inch softball, a Chicago tradition, North has been honored for his contributions to the sport, including being named the Softball Hall of Fame’s Man of the Year in 1999.
