John McDonough is a visionary sports executive known for transforming fan engagement and marketing strategies in professional sports. With a degree in communications from St. Mary’s University, McDonough has dedicated much of his career to innovative leadership with organizations like the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks.

During his 24 years with the Cubs, McDonough spearheaded several groundbreaking initiatives, including the creation of the Cubs Convention, which has raised over $9 million for charity and become a model for team-fan engagement. He also pioneered the wildly successful “Beanie Baby” promotional events and introduced concepts like the celebrity “guest conductor” tradition at Wrigley Field, paying homage to legendary broadcaster Harry Caray. His marketing acumen contributed to the Cubs achieving 14 of their highest attendance figures in franchise history.

As President of the Chicago Blackhawks, McDonough continued to innovate while serving on various boards and lecturing at institutions such as the University of Chicago and Marquette University. His ability to enhance brand value and fan loyalty has solidified his legacy as a transformative figure in the sports industry.
