Jay Blunk, Executive Vice President of the Chicago Blackhawks, has transformed the team’s business operations since joining as Senior Vice President in 2008. By embracing a fan-focused approach and bold, innovative strategies, Blunk has driven significant revenue growth and fan engagement. Under his leadership, the Blackhawks introduced groundbreaking initiatives like the Emmy Award-winning Blackhawks TV, the Blackhawks Training Camp Festival, and cross-promotional partnerships with local teams like the Chicago Cubs and White Sox. These efforts earned the team a nomination for Sports Business Journal’s 2009 Professional Sports Team of the Year.
Blunk also played a pivotal role in organizing the NHL Winter Classic at Wrigley Field during the 2008-09 season, a historic year in which the Blackhawks drew over 1 million fans for the first time. In 2010, the Blackhawks were recognized by Sports Business Journal for having the “Most Innovative Business Practices,” and in 2012, The Hockey News lauded the team as the “Best of Everything in Hockey.”
With a 22-year tenure at the Chicago Cubs prior to joining the Blackhawks, Blunk brought a wealth of promotional experience to his role. A graduate of Illinois State University, he remains deeply involved in civic and charitable organizations, serving as a board member for the ISU School of Communication and supporting programs for Illinois youth through Chicago Blackhawks Charities. Blunk and his wife, Marci, are proud parents of three children: Brandon, Maggie, and Cameron.
