Class of 2008
George Wilson

George Wilson, a basketball legend, made his mark early as a standout player at Marshall High School, where he averaged 25, 26, and 27 points per game during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In 1958, he led Marshall to a perfect 31-0 season, culminating in a State Championship and earning All-American honors.

At the University of Cincinnati (1960-64), Wilson was a college All-American and a key member of the 1962 NCAA Basketball Championship team. His talents earned him a spot on the 1964 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Basketball team, competing in Tokyo. Professionally, Wilson played in the NBA for the Seattle SuperSonics, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers, and Buffalo Braves.

One of his proudest achievements is being the only living basketball player to compete in four consecutive Chicago Public League Championships. Wilson’s legacy is further celebrated through his induction into multiple Halls of Fame, including the Marshall High School Hall of Fame, Greater Cincinnati Hall of Fame, and Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame.

Now retired from public school teaching, Wilson remains active, dedicating his time to youth initiatives and fundraising efforts, cementing his role as a role model both on and off the court.
