Frank Strocchia, one of the finest officials to ever work in the Big Ten Conference, built a career characterized by integrity and respect. Growing up in Chicago, he honed his football skills at De La Salle High School and the University of Utah, where his toughness became legendary. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Frank returned to Chicago, working for the Park District before becoming a Big Ten referee in 1957.
Known for his fairness and command on the field, Strocchia officiated numerous high-stakes games, including Big Ten rivalries and major bowl games like the Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Cotton Bowls. Beyond the gridiron, he conducted clinics and mentored young officials, leaving a lasting legacy in officiating and youth sports.
Honored by multiple organizations, Frank has been inducted into several Halls of Fame and remains active in officiating education even in retirement. Now living in Las Vegas with his wife Lynn, Frank’s motto resonates: “Players should play, coaches should coach, and fans should enjoy the game.”
