Elzie Higginbottom Jr

Elzie Higginbottom, Jr., a standout track and field athlete at the University of Wisconsin, excelled in the 440-yard dash, earning NCAA All-American honors in 1963 and setting Big Ten records in the event. A three-time Big Ten champion, he held university records in the indoor and outdoor 440-yard dash for over two decades. Honored with Wisconsin’s “distinguished alumni award,” Higginbottom is also a member of the university’s men’s track and field Hall of Honor.

In 1975, he founded East Lake Management & Development Corp., which grew into Illinois’ largest minority-owned real estate company. Recognized in Crain’s Chicago Business and inducted into the Chicago Association of Realtors Hall of Fame, Higginbottom has also been a community advocate. His philanthropy includes supporting Chicago-area teen track athletes through the East Lake Windy City Track and Field banquet.

Higginbottom emphasizes the transformative power of athletics in shaping young lives. Ranked as the 7th fastest sprinter globally in his youth, he remains dedicated to fostering sportsmanship and excellence in the community. Married to Deborah Larsen, he is the proud father of four children.
