Christina Loukas, an Olympian from Riverwoods, Illinois, realized her dream of competing in the Olympics when she qualified for the 2008 games in Beijing. Christina won the three-meter springboard diving trials, clinching her spot on the U.S. Olympic Diving Team. After finishing fourth at the World Cup, she was awarded 25 bonus points, which she carried into the Trials.
A graduate of Deerfield High School, Christina won the Illinois high school diving championship for three straight years. While earning her degree at Indiana University, she was named Big Ten and NCAA Diver of the Year. As a past NCAA champion on the three-meter springboard, Christina set an NCAA record with a score of 437.75. She also finished second in the one-meter competition and had a total of 11 All-America honors in her career.
Christina represented the United States in the one-meter and three-meter springboard events at the 2009 FINA World Championships.
Her many and varied accomplishments are even more impressive considering she did not start diving competitively until age 12, when she switched from gymnastics in junior high school.
A tireless worker who combined athletics with academics, Christina placed ninth at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with 315.70 points. She successfully defended her title on the one-meter springboard at the 2008 Kaiser Permanente National Championships and finished second in the three-meter event. Christina was also a silver medalist at the 2007 World University Games in Thailand and has taken part in numerous other international competitions.
