Bill Jauss

Bill Jauss was a distinguished sportswriter who built a career spanning decades, marked by excellence and dedication to journalism. After attending Northwestern University, Jauss began his career writing for three prominent daily newspapers, including the Chicago Daily News and Chicago Today, before joining the Chicago Tribune in 1974. Over his tenure, he earned national awards for his insightful coverage across a wide range of sports.

A familiar voice on the airwaves, Jauss was an original member of the Chicago Sports Writers show, which enjoyed a remarkable 20-year run on WGN Radio. Known as “The Cool Voice of Reason,” he was also a key contributor to the nationally syndicated Sports Writers program, which celebrated its 500th episode during his time on the show.

Beyond journalism, Jauss dedicated 14 years to teaching Reporting Law at Northwestern University, where his contributions were recognized with campus-wide facility awards. A member of both the United States Basketball and Chicago Journalism Halls of Fame, Jauss remains celebrated for his thoughtful commentary and unwavering commitment to his craft.
