Andre Dawson, nicknamed “The Hawk,” had an extraordinary 21-season Major League Baseball career, playing for Montreal, Chicago (NL), Boston, and Florida. He ranks 15th all-time in National League history with 1,476 RBI and is among the top 35 in baseball history for home runs (438) and hits (2,774). Dawson became the 11th player in Major League history to hit 400 home runs, achieving the milestone at Veterans Stadium in 1995.

Dawson’s illustrious career included being named the 1987 National League Most Valuable Player in his first season with the Chicago Cubs, setting career highs with 49 home runs and 137 RBI despite playing for a last-place team—a feat unmatched in MLB history. He was an eight-time National League All-Star and won eight Rawlings Gold Gloves for his outstanding defense. Dawson also tied a Major League record by hitting two home runs in one inning twice, in 1978 and 1985, and won the Jackie Robinson National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1977.

A graduate of South Miami High School and Florida A&M University, Dawson has been honored with numerous accolades, including a street in his hometown named “Andre Dawson Drive.” He and his wife Vanessa reside in Florida with their children, Amber and Darius, and his legacy as one of baseball’s greatest players remains firmly intact.
